Studio | Hackett 2012-

A battle axe block in Hackett ACT, in an area rich in early modest Canberra housing. Replacing an unused garage, this pavilion extends the useful space of the home to create a backyard courtyard. Opening to the north with generous glazing, this backyard sun trap activates the site with the provision of casual guest accommodation, a garden living room, bathroom and a jewellery making studio.

This project demonstrates the principals of the Takt modular studio - standard sheet sizes, regular structure, and prefabrication for economy, careful siting to make best use of existing resources, and robust materiality for a strong atmosphere awaiting the enrichment of time.
